King tide and rising sea displaces Ahus Islanders in Manus

The effects of climate change caused by global warming are now a concern for people throughout the world and the Ahus Islanders in the Manus Province are no exception.
These islanders‘s traditional daily livelihood that they have been living for some hundreds of years is now been threatened as the sea level began to rise to wash away the beach front making their island smaller. And last December’s king tide that affected coastal people in the East Sepik and New Ireland Provinces had also affected them as well.
OCCES is considering long term partnership with a clean energy company for renewable energy projects

The Office of Climate Change and Environment Sustainability (OCC&ES) has held discussions with Clean Power & Water Technologies (CP&WT), a clean energy company interested in introducing alternative power generating projects using renewable energy.

Ambunti-Drekirkir MP Tony Aimo has applauded the decision made by the Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare and the Forest Minister Beldem Namah for approving the April Salome Carbon Sequestration project in his electorate in the East Sepik Province.
The Pacific Adventist University (PAU) became the first tertiary institution in the country to conduct an awareness visit to the Office of Climate Change and Environment Sustainability (OCCES) yesterday (Wednesday 17th May, 2009).
At least 12-first year Education students majoring in Geography along with their lecturer Jones Taos met with OCCES Director – Climate Change Joe Pokana and Executive Manager for Climate Impacts and Adaptation, John Mosoro.
Office of Climate Change and Environment Sustainability (OCC&ES) Executive Director Dr Theo Yasause has donated his private vehicle to the Gerehu Police station in Port Moresby on Saturday (02nd May 2009).
Dr Yasause gave the vehicle to the local police officers as needed under Operation ‘Wok Bung Wantaim’ following his pledge that he had made during the launching of Operation on Friday at the Grand Palace restaurant in Gordons.
